NATURALIST
Bailey and Jes bring together their shared passion for Nature to inspire meaningful change through environmental education. With complementary strengths and a unified vision, they have joined forces to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that empower students to know and live in right relationship with the natural world.
From Tropical Ecosytems of Belize
For the past 20 years, Jes has immersed himself in the vibrant ecosystems of Belize, dedicating his time to studying tropical ecology and gaining a profound understanding of the region's unique biodiversity. His work has taken him deep into the heart of Belize’s diverse landscapes, from its lush rainforests to the stunning coral reefs. Alongside his academic pursuits, Jes has also worked as a water expedition guide, leading visitors on kayaking, scuba diving, and windsurfing adventures that showcase the natural wonders of the area. His hands-on experience in these activities has not only deepened his connection to the environment but also allowed him to share the importance of conservation and sustainable practices with others, instilling a love for the water and the incredible ecosystems he’s come to know so well.
To the Temperate Rainforest of Northern California
For the past 10 years, Bailey has rooted into Humboldt as the home where she has dedicated herself to the temperate rainforests and bioregion that define the Northern California landscape. Her deep connection to the land has led her to explore the intricate ecosystems that thrive in this unique environment, fostering a profound understanding of the local flora, fauna, and ecological processes. In addition to her academic pursuits, Bailey finds passion sharing her time teaching youth through Waldorf programs and sharing classes on ancestral skills, blending modern educational practices with traditional knowledge. Through hands-on experiences like foraging, crafting, and creating fire by friction, Bailey loves empowering young learners to connect with their innate knowing of the natural world, fostering a sense of stewardship and respect for the earth that will last throughout their lifetime.
& To the many places between….
Thank you, Fire.
One of Jes and Bailey’s deep passions that they share together is to teach the ancestral skill of making fire by friction— not just as a skill, but as a way to connect more deeply with the land, with each other, and with something ancient and innate within ourselves. With a deep respect for traditional knowledge and a passion for community connection, they teach hands-on fire-making techniques using natural materials gathered from the land. They believe Fire is here to remind us of how it lives within us all, and they would love to help foster your own connection to the medicine it holds.
